HFL Proudly Congratulates Cristina Kessler!

We’ve just learned that Literary Classics has honored our friend and longtime HFL supporter, author Cristina Kessler, with the 2015 Lumen Award for Literary Excellence for her latest book, Hope Is Here!  This award is given for "excellence in nonfiction for young readers" and was selected from numerous entries received from around the globe.

Hope Is Here! is a children’s book based on the true story of Hope, a shorebird that visits St. Croix every year and her incredible annual journey from the Arctic Circle to the Caribbean and back.

The book was a featured title given to the children of the territory by former first lady Cecile de Jongh as part of her and former Governor de Jongh's annual holiday book giving initiative. It was also given to children in Virginia’s school system. Virginia is home to the College of William and Mary, sponsors of Hope’s tracking program.

Cristina and her husband Joe have been long time supporters of Hope for Limpopo and recently returned from a visit to the Vhutshilo Mountain School in Venda. Their dedication and diligence have resulted in the sponsorship of over 16 VMS students and the initiation of many worthwhile programs in the Limpopo Province.

Cristina will be recognized during the Literary Classics book award presentation to be held on April 2, 2016 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
