A Brief Review - 2012

Thanks to HFL's generous donors we assisted more Limpopo children in 2012 than ever before!  Here’s a sampling of the great work you've supported:
Sixteen Vhutshilo Mountain School Vhutshilo Mountain School children received complete scholarships; educational costs, school supplies, 2 nutritious meals per day, transport to and from school, clothing and medical support.
The goat project is up and running! The females are pregnant and getting fatter with babies due in June/July.  Children and staff love the goat’s milk on their morning porridge and the school is saving on milk costs.
A new roof and floor were added to VMS’s caretaker house to provide a new 'home' and on-going support and care for Phathu, a homeless HIV positive child. Read Phathu's story.
Fences were purchased and installed in the ARV group children’s gardens, keeping their vegetables safe from goats and other critters.
Much needed new carpets were purchased for the floors of the pre-school classroom.
Over 350 Brenda books were purchased and provided to the children of Limpopo.
TVEP's dedicated employees were honored with plaques and thank you's.  It made their day!
A new server and printer were purchased for the Tshilidzini Special School students and teachers to print their work.
Three new braille machines are making the life of our vision-impaired students much brighter.
Our on-going building fund continues to grow with 'matching funds.'
And projects from 2011 continue to move forward with ongoing funding and support from you!

Magic!

How else could one possibly describe the magical evening 40 people recently spent on the island of St John? Cristina & Joe Kessler joined forces with Susan & Miles Stair coupled with world class magicians Johnny Fox & Lisa Menna resulting in an over-the-top evening of delicious food, great fun, top quality entertainment and support for the Vhutshilo Mountain School children in South Africa. HFL is overjoyed at the friendship bond that has formed with this generous, public-spirited group of people. If delicious food and service provided by Laura and Passion Fruit Chefs, drinks courtesy of Chirag and Kevin from The Tap Room, card tricks performed by Lisa Menna of Cause to Wonder fame, photography by professional children’s comedian ‘Silly Billy’ (Silly Billy Magic) and main performance by comedian, magician and sword swallower extraordinaire, Johnny Fox, was not enough, then perhaps the $12,700 they raised to sponsor 7 HIV/AIDS school children and an additional contribution to the school building fund will do the trick. A HUGE “thank you” to Whitney Falk who made a personal contribution that blew us away. More on that amazing young lady soon….she deserves her own blog mention!
