If
you have ever doubted the importance of ‘spreading the HFL word’, we invite you
to read on. Whitney Falk’s name was recently mentioned in our Feb 2nd ‘MAGIC!’
blog. We promised to fill you in on how Whitney and her employers have impacted
Vhutshilo Mountain School so here goes…
Whitney
is a relatively new employee at Jefferies, an American global investment bank and
institutional securities firm and the largest independent bank in the U.S. They
claim that, “With an expanding global network of more than 30 offices
worldwide, contributing to society and promoting a diverse work force is
important to us.” And they have proven true to their word. Whitney has made
Jefferies’ objective, Hope for Limpopo’s
gain.
In
early January Jefferies held their annual ‘Town hall’ meeting with everyone
either personally present or in attendance via videoconference. The meeting usually
serves to recap the year, outline future goals and recognize outstanding
employees. This year Whitney Falk claimed the coveted ‘Rookie of the Year’
award that entitled her to donate $5,000 to the charity of her choice. Hope for Limpopo, Inc. was her chosen recipient.
Whitney became an HFL follower through her mother Jane, who is linked to the St
John ‘Another Magical Evening’ group which, in turn, was initiated by their
friends Cristina & Joe Kessler. This
is ‘spreading the HFL word ‘ at it’s finest!
This
$5,000 donation will enable Vhutshilo Mountain School to begin to build a
desperately needed eco-friendly school addition. The new structure will allow
additional impoverished preschoolers to attend school, provide space for the
antiretroviral workshop children to learn how to live with HIV and will provide
space for community members to gather for medical and financial assistance. Plans
have been drawn, area workers and volunteers have been contacted and supplies
have been ordered. Additional money is still needed to complete this project so
please let us know if you have any creative ideas for funding sources or would
like to make a personal contribution to the building fund.
We
are grateful to Whitney, Jefferies & Company, Inc., Jane, Joe and Cristina
Kessler for making a difference in so many lives and for continuing to ‘spread
the word’. Thank you!
